Fullerton: Malaysia’s mixed doubles No. 5 seeds Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying beat No. 4 seeds Marvin Emil Seidel/Linda Efler of Germany in the US Open final on Sunday to win their second title of the season after they won the Thailand Masters in January.

The Rio Olympic mixed doubles silver medalists needed only 38 minutes to outlast Seidel/Efler 21-19, 21-15 for the US Open title.

In women’s singles, No. 1 seed Zhang Beiwen of USA came through a tight first-set tussle with the unseeded London Olympic gold medalist Li Xuerui of China, winning it 26-24.

Li then seized the initiative, producing a second set win of 21-15 to set herself up for the decider against the home favorite. Zhang came out firing in the third set, but Li gradually wore her down and went on to win the rubber game 21-11.

In the men’s singles final, unseeded Lee Dong Keun of Korea came back from dropping a set to upset No. 6 seed Mark Caljouw of Netherlands 14-21, 21-17, 21-16 in a 75 minutes battle.

Tang Jinhua/Yu Xiaohan and Ou Xuanyi/Ren Xiangyu added two more titles for the Chinese camp after claiming the women’s doubles and men’s doubles titles respectively.
