Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian coach – Izuan Ibrahim who helped shaped World No. 1 Kento Momota’s badminton path during his youth has sadly passed away at 7.30pm, Monday at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia Kubang Kerian.
Ibrahim was admitted to the hospital last Thursday after complaining of having headache. He was then diagnosed with intracranial bleeding and had to undergo surgery to remove blood clot in the brain. However, he fell into coma state after the surgery and unfortunately took his last breath on Monday.
The late coach was actually due to start working as junior coach at Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on January 1, 2020. He left behind his wife Siti Marsyhtah Muhammad and three children.
The 35-year-old used to coach the Japanese back-up squad when Momota was a member, and has huge influence in Momota’s playing style when Japan eventually beat Malaysia 3-2 to clinch their first Thomas Cup title in New Delhi in 2014, as the 19-year-old Momota beat Chong Wei Feng in straight-set to give Japan a 2-1 lead and much needed confidence to his teammates.
