Kuala Lumpur: Playing in their first meeting in BWF World Tour event, World No. 8 Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik proved they started better than World No. 10 Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong after winning their first round battle at the Malaysia Masters on Tuesday.
The clash saw Chia/Soh walked away with 21-19, 21-18 victory in 33 minutes.
In addition to the win, Chia/Soh also enjoyed a slight advantage over Goh/Tan in the race to Tokyo as Chia/Soh came in 10th with 50,941 points while Goh/Tan finished 12th with 46,610 points.
Meanwhile, World No. 19 men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi who will be leaving the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) at the end of January, put on a strong performance to beat World No. 12 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty of India 21-15, 18-21, 21-15. They will play the winners between No. 8 seeds Han Cheng Kai /Zhou Hao Dong of China and Jones Ralfy Jansen/Peter Kaesbauer of Germany in the next round.
