Kuala Lumpur: World No. 7 mixed doubles player Goh Liu Ying felt grateful that the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) allowed her and her partner Chan Peng Soon to participate in the Road To Tokyo (RTT) program starting July 15.

The first group of Malaysian badminton squad has started their RTT training at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara on June 1, 2020.

Liu Ying said the current situation made it difficult for her and Chan to attend the training camp which began on June 1 because Chan had just welcomed his fourth child last month, and he would need to spend time taking care of his newborn.

“Peng Soon currently needs time to look after his wife and children, so it would be a little difficult for us to attend the training,” said Goh.

However, Goh agreed that July 15 would be an ideal date for her and Chan to start their joint training with players from BAM.

“Peng Soon and I wanted to get back on the badminton court. So far we have been training separately and haven’t been practicing together on the badminton court,” added Goh.

“Besides, we were also playing tennis to maintain our fitness. We will make sure we comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) and guidelines provided by BAM,” explained Goh.
