Jakarta: Fajar Alfian/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan have emerged as men’s doubles champion at the PBSI Mola TV Home Tournament on Friday.
The tournament was organized by the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) with the purpose of giving Indonesian shuttlers opportunities to get used to the competitive feeling by competing with their teammates after Badminton World Federation (BWF) has suspended all international tournaments since March 15th, 2020 due to the coronavirus outbreak.
All senior Indonesian pairs were split up and paired with junior players in the tournament, helping to nurture and develop those young talents by exposing them to a higher level of competition.
The senior-junior pair of Fajar Alfian/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan were unbeaten throughout the competition and out of five matches, they have only lost one game.
In the final against Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Moh. Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, Fajar Alfian/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan appeared aggressive and consistent, beating Sukamuljo/Isfahani 21-18-, 21-18 to take home total prize money of $50,000,000 Indonesian rupiah (USD $3523.29).
“We enjoyed the match a lot. Although it was just like an exhibition match, it felt like an official tournament. I personally felt relaxed playing here, and did not expect to win the tournament,” said Fajar Alfian.
Meanwhile, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo also admitted that he rarely got the chance to do a quick strike in front of the net which was his money shot.
“I did not try to hide anything, I just couldn’t find my rhythm. It really depends on the situation on the court,” explained Sukamuljo.
