Kuala Lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has confirmed that all eight independent players were cleared from COVID-19 as their test results have come back negative.

Those encouraging results came from Tuesday’s testing, allowing independent players including Daren Liew, Soong Joo Ven, Teo Ee Yi-Ong Yew Sin, and Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong to start participating in the joint training with BAM shuttlers starting Thursday. Meanwhile, and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying will join the training held at Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on Saturday.

BAM also posted a message on its social media page with the statement below:

“The Association will continue to maintain the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety measures in accordance with the recommendations by the National Security Council (MKN) and Ministry of Health (KKM). The health and well-being of everyone stationed at the national badminton centre of excellence remains our No. 1 priority.”

Those professionals were among the best badminton players in Malaysia and were called up to get ready for the Thomas and Uber Cup preparations as well as the Road To Tokyo (RTT) Program that involved the mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying.

Players who were preparing for the Thomas Cup would train for five days per week while for Chan and Goh would be training at ABM twice a week.
