Shaanxi: World No. 1 mixed doubles pair, Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong of the Zhejiang team, have advanced to the Chinese National Badminton Championships Final (individual event) after beating Pei Tianyi/Zhang Shuxian from the Sichuan team 11-3, 11-7, 11-5, 11-9 on Monday.
The Chinese National Badminton Championships individual events have been using the 7×11 scoring format.
In another mixed doubles semi-final, World No. 2 mixed doubles player Huang Dongping who played for the Fujian team, led her young partner Ou Xuanyi to beat their opponents from Shanghai 8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9, 11-2.
In women’s singles, World No. 2 Chen Yufei secured a final berth in a comeback victory against Beijing’s Cai Yanyan, beating Cai 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9 to take on Wang Zhiyi of Hubei next.
The men’s singles final saw Gu Junfeng of Liaoning took 70 minutes to overcome World No. 98 Ren Pengbo of Zhejiang 5-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3, 12-10, 11-5 to meet Weng Hongyang from Fujian in the final.
The battle of World No. 18 men’s pair Huang Kaixiang/Liu Cheng of Fujian and Zhou Haodong/Wang Chang of Zhejiang went down to the wire when Huang/Liu needed 73 minutes to eventually beat Zhou/Wang 5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 11-8 to take on Liu Yuchen/Feng Yanzhe of Beijing in the final.
Meanwhile, Chen Xiaofei/Feng Xueying of Guangdong will face An Yu/Liu Shengshu of Liaoning in the women’s doubles final. Chen Xiaofei/Feng Xueying pulled off a huge upset to topple the strong pair of Huang Dongping/Yan Chenxue 11-2, 11-5, 13-11, 11-9 in the semi-finals.
