Jakarta: The Indonesian badminton legend and the 2008 Beijing Olympic men’s doubles gold medalist, Markis Kido, has passed away at the age of 36.
Former Indonesian badminton player, Yuni Kartika, broke the news through her personal Twitter and Instagram accounts on Monday – June 14, 2021, evening (Indonesia time) with the following message:
“One of the best badminton players in the country, Markis Kido, has passed away. Goodbye Markis Kido,” said Yuni Kartika.

It’s reported that Markis Kido died after having a heart attack while playing badminton.
Kido and Hendra Setiawan were ranked number one in the world in 2007 and scored the highest achievement of their career when they won a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
They were the last Indonesian men’s doubles pair to win the Olympic gold medal.
Kido was also one of the very few Indonesian badminton players who had won three major titles, namely the Olympics (2008), World Championships (2007), and Asian Games (2010).
The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) and Badminton World Federation (BWF) have also confirmed the news on Monday night (Indonesia time).
