Bali: Japan’s World No. 1 men’s singles player, Kento Momota said he was very excited to compete at the Asian Leg of BWF World Tour tournaments during his first visit to Bali.

Even though the tournaments will be held without spectators in a bubble system, shuttlers from all around the world really enjoyed the hospitality from the host, featuring Balinese entertainment and easily accessible practice facilities.

Momota is enjoying his stay in Bali.

“This is my first tournament in Bali. I feel happy because the hotel is good, the stadium is very close to the hotel, and it’s very convenient,” said Momota after his practice session in Nusa Dua, Bali on Saturday.

Responding to the host’s decision of organizing the tournaments without the audience, Momota said he totally understood the decision.

“Well, I can understand the decision. It’s due to the pandemic, I would just enjoy all my matches,” explained Momota.

Momota also told the media that he was planning to spend more time traveling in Bali, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he was forced to postpone his plan for now.

“This is my first time in Bali, actually I really want to travel here. But it’s impossible to do that now. Hopefully, I can have other opportunities in the future to come and travel in Bali,” continued Momota.

He also commented about his opponents for the tournaments in Bali.

“Everyone in the men’s singles is strong, no one has a clear advantage over others. But I will play my best,” said Momota.

When talking about Viktor Axelsen of Denmark who could potentially be overtaking him to become the new World No. 1, Momota reiterated that he was not bothered by that and just wanted to play his best game in Bali.

“There will be a win and lose in every match. I don’t want to think too much about the ranking and points. If he overtakes me, what can I do? It only means that I’m not good enough,” explained Momota.
