Hong Kong: Malaysia’s World No. 4 Lee Zii Jia ended his training in Hong Kong on Saturday and is heading to Dubai to defend the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) title he won last year.
While in Hong Kong, Lee had been training with Hong Kong’s World No. 17 Angus Ng Ka Long, World No. 20 Lee Cheuk Yiu, World No. 91 Chan Yin Chak, and World No. 162 Jason Gunawan.
Interestingly, Lee will face Angus Ng Ka Long in the BAC first round.
Lee also received guidance from Wong Tat Meng – who was credited for nurturing the current World No. 2 – An Se-young of South Korea into a top women’s singles player and is now the men’s singles coach for the Hong Kong team.
Lee Zii Jia, Cheam June Wei, Soo Teck Zhi, and Soong Joo Ven were the last group that he coached in Malaysia before going abroad to coach the Scotland team, then the Korean team and after that, he signed a two-year deal with the Hong Kong BA (HKBA) and is tasked to prepare their men’s team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“Gaining valuable experience in Hong Kong and being accompanied by good friends,” said Lee in a tweet on Team LZJ’s official Twitter.
