KUALA LUMPUR: World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei will be one of the guests in this year’s Laureus World Sports Awards on March 26 and he is thrilled with the prospect of meeting a gala of sports stars.

On Monday, the two-time Olympic Games silver medallist Chong Wei said he had received an invitation letter to attend the awards ceremony, which is dubbed the Oscars of sports. And if there is one person he hopes to meet it is world record holder Usain Bolt of Jamaica. Bolt, who has won six Olympic Games gold medals, is one of the sporting greats who has been honoured at a previous edition of the Laureus.

The others who have been honoured over the last 15 years are Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Alex Ferguson and Michael Schumacher.

“I am excited, as this is a chance to meet all the renowned sports stars in the world in KL. One of the sports greats that I look up to is Usain Bolt … hopefully, I will get to see him,” said Chong Wei, after a training session at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara.

Those confirmed attending are Serena Williams, Bradley Wiggins, Mo Farah, Michael Phelps, Sebastian Vettel, Alyson Felix, Shelley-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Missy Franklin, Jessica Ennis, Ernie Els, Neymar, Yannick Agnel, Anna Mears and Tirunesh Dibaba.
