KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 — World number one men’s badminton player Datuk Lee Chong Wei is leaning towards Misbun Ramdan Misbun for the final spot in the the Thomas Cup team.
Chong Wei further explained that Ramdan has been pretty consistent in every tournaments he had participated, and is currently ranked 48th in the world.
“Well, the final decision will have to come from Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM). They will make the decision maybe tomorrow or next week,” he told reporters after attending an incentive presentation ceremony for athletes who produced excellent results at the 2013 Maybank Malaysia Open Badminton Championship and Mynamar SEA Games last year.
Chong Wei was awarded RM25,000 for winning the 2013 BWF Super Series Masters Finals, RM25,000 for the 2014 All-England Super Series Premier championship and RM30,000 for winning the 2014 Malaysia Open Super Series Premier.
Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem also rewarded with RM25,000 for winning the 2014 Malaysia Open Super Series Premier title. National women’s doubles pair Woon Khe Wei-Vivian Hoo Kah Mun received RM28,000 for their SEA Games Gold medal.
Chong Wei predicted the Thomas Cup men’s team could at least make it to the quarter-finals despite the stiff competition from China.
