Unseeded Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong of Malaysia who battled through qualifying rounds to make the main draw, sent the reigning Denmark Open champions and sixth seed Fu Haifeng-Zhang Nan of China packing 21-19 9-21 21-19 in 48 minutes. Meanwhile, men’s doubles top seed Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen managed to power past Fun Haifeng’s longtime partner Cai Yun and his new partner Lu Kai 25-23 21-17.
In men’s singles, Malaysia’s sole men’s singles representatives, Chong Wei Feng was showed the exit by Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto in the first round of the Superseries tournament losing 21-18, 13-21, 13-21 in 63 minutes. With more aggressive play, unseeded Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei stunned the men’s singles second seed Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark 25-23 9-21 21-15, while men’s singles shuttler from India Parupalli Kashyap earned a place in the second round after defeated third seed Kenichi Tago of Japan 21-11 21-18.
Porntip Buranaprasertsuk from Thailand who was blown away in the opening set by eight seed P.V. Sindhu of India, was forced to summon every ounce of strength and determination to hit back to take the second and win a third set 12-21 21-18 21-16 to advance to the French Open women’s singles second round.
