Puchong United kick off 2nd-half of Purple League with a winning streak

Kuala Lumpur: After a three-week recess, the No. 1 team in Malaysia’s Purple League – Puchong United BC kicked off the second half of the season on Friday by defeating Ampang Jaya BC with the final score of 13-9.Markis Kido (left) and Agripinna Prima of Puchong United BC (Photo: Purple League's FB)

In the first men’s singles match, Puchong United BC that spearheaded by Daren Liew, who secured fist three points by trouncing former world number four Sony Dwi Kuncoro 11-6, 11-4, 10-11, 11-8.

However, Lee Ying Ying went down easily to Ho Yen Mei of Ampang Jaya in the women’s singles match when she couldn’t overcome the dominance of Ho by losing 5-11, 11-10, 7-11, 5-11 in 29 minutes.

Agripinna Prima partnered with 2008 Olympics Champion Markis Kido helped calm Puchong’s nerves scoring a 3-1 victory against Muhammad Amzzar-Ong Yew Sinto in the first men’s doubles match to put Puchong ahead with 7-5.

After losing in the mixed doubles final of the National GP finals, last year’s Sabah Open winner Tan Aik Quan-Lai Pei Jing continued to struggle when they were dumped by Terry Hee Yong Kai- Shevon Lai Jemie of Ampang Jaya BC 8-11, 6-11, 6-11 in 19 minutes.

World number 26 men’s singles Tanongsak Somboonsuk and Tan Wee Gieen/Yew Hong Kheng then led Puchong United rolled to their fifth-straight win to finish the night with 13-9 triumph over Ampang Jaya.

Earlier Friday, despite losing in the first men’s singles match, Petaling Jaya BC made strong comeback to crush Kajang BC with the final score of 15-8.
