Earlier Friday, Daren Liew was forced to work hard to eliminate top seed Rasmus Fladberg of Denmark in the men’s singles last eight by winning the three-set thriller 21-12, 13-21, 25-23 in 58 minutes. In the semi-final match that was held later in the day, quite unexpectedly, Daren Liew rolled past Ihsan Maulana Mustofa of Indonesia in a relatively easy match. Daren Liew appeared to be focused and needed only 38 minutes to dispatch Ihsan Maulana Mustofa 21-14, 21-14. Daren will take on fifth seed Emil Holst of Denmark in the men’s singles final on Saturday.

Meanwhile, competing in their second international tournament together in nearly a year after Goh Liu Ying spent some time on the sidelines with a knee injury, Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying rallied from one set down to battled past Anton Kaisti/Cheryl Seinen from Finland and Netherlands to earn final berth at the Polish Open. Chan/Goh upped their game in the third, and eventually triumphed at 21-17, 19-21, 21-16 in 44 minutes. The Malaysian pair will show square off with Akshay Dewalkar/Pradnya Gadre of India in the final.
