Dongguan: Let the games begin! 2015 Sudirman Cup officially kicked off at the evening of May 8, with an elaborate opening ceremony featuring wonderful parade and performances.
Badminton World Federation (BWF) secretary general attended the Sudirman Cup opening ceremony together with Vice Governor of Guangdong Province – Xu Ruisheng on Friday.
More than 400 athletes from 35 countries will be competing in the mixed team badminton championship which takes place every two years in Dongguan, from May 10 – May 17. World No. 1 men’s singles player Chen Long represented the host country to deliver the Sudirman Cup oath on behalf of all athletes at the opening ceremony.
BWF secretary general Thomas Lund said in his speech that China has held the Sudirman Cup tournament for the fourth time, and this showed the Chinese people’s great enthusiasm for the sport of badminton. He also indicated China has always maintained a very high standard when organizing large-scale events, and he looked forward to a great Sudirman Cup event that would bring many surprises and excitement to the fans.
