Last August, Spain`s Carolina Marin pulled off a monumental upset as she completed an incredible 17-21, 21-17, 21-18 victory against Chinese world number one Li Xuerui to win the women`s singles title at the Badminton World Championships in Copenhagen. That was also her country’s first ever major title in badminton.

The Spaniard has her career soaring after winning the world title last year, before adding the prestigious All England, Malaysia Open, and Australian Open in 2015. However, the injury could put a temporary halt to one of the sport’s greatest women’s singles player. Currently, the Spaniard, 22, is being kept in hospital for further observation. If she could recover in time, fans would definitely love to see her back in action at the world championships.
