Jakarta: Lee Chong Wei provided a minor scare to the Malaysian team when he sat out of practice at the Djarum Badminton Centre in Jakarta on Sunday due to a blister on the small toe of his right foot.
Lee worked very hard and gave a great effort at the training on Saturday, and it was believed he got the blister from the training.
Prevent it getting worse, Lee’s coach Hendrawan has then advised him to take rest. The technical director of Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Morten Frost has insisted that the injury Lee Chong Wei picked up was not serious, and Lee will be ready to start his world championships campaign against Kestutis Navickas of Lithuania on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, reigning women’s singles world champion Spaniard Carolina Marin told reporter that she will turn on her attack mode at the world meet.
“I want to go out and defend the world championships title. I am a competitive person, and attacking style of play is my strength,” said Marin.
Marin also determined not to let her metatarsal injury became an excuse to perform badly at the world meet.
“Although I still experiencing some discomfort on the foot, the important thing for me now is to stay focused, to stay cool, and to employ the best strategies against my rivals,” added Marin.
Marin begins the defense of her world title on Tuesday, where she will play either Tee Jing Yi of Malaysia or Jeanine Cicognini of Italy.
