Jakarta: Defending champion Carolina Marin of Spain will take on India’s World No 2 Saina Nehwal in the women’s singles final at the World Championships in Jakarta. Carolina, the top seed, edged Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea 21-17, 15-21, 21-16 while Saina defeated Indonesia’s Lindaweni Fanetri 21-17, 21-17.
“I am happy to reach the final again. It was tough and I was slightly nervous at the beginning. I did not play at my best level but I told myself to keep the shuttle on court and also minimise mistake,” said Carolina.
Saina has already created history by becoming the first Indian player to reach a final in the world meet and the 25-year-old will be inspired to win the title tomorrow.
Christinna Pedersen-Kamila Rytter Juhl earned Denmark their first ever appearance in the women’s doubles after the fourth seeds beat Japan’s Naoko Fukuman-Kurumi Yonao 21-12, 21-15. They will face China’s Tian Qing-Zhao Yunlei tomorrow.
