Kazan: It’s been six days since World No. 3 men’s doubles player Carsten Mogensen was rushed to a hospital in Kazan, Russia for the treatment of ruptured aortic aneurysms in his brain. Although he is making positive progress in his recovery, he has not yet been discharged from the hospital.Carsten Mogensen signs autographs for fans.

Speaking to the media for the first time after he returned to Denmark on Wednesday, Mogensen’s men’s doubles partner Mathias Boe said the whole incident was very tough as he experienced it.

“Last few days have been very difficult, it was a very tough experience, but I tried my best to give him as much support as possible,” said Mathias Boe to the Denmark media.

“When Carsten was admitted to the hospital last week, and after listening to doctors’ advice, I’ve convinced him it was good idea to undergo the surgery. I also got a hold with his family.”

“We also took turns to take care and to feed him. His condition has very much improved when I left the hospital yesterday.”

Mathias Boe was the first person who saw the whole thing unfold when he was looking for Mogensen at a hotel in Kazan, Russia last Thursday.

“I knocked on the door, and he opened it. However, I noticed he was drooling and was twisting one side of his face. I thought he might be playing a joke with me, so I asked him ‘Are you kidding with me?’. ‘No, I am in pain!'”

“I immediately laid him down on the bed, and called our physiotherapist. I also asked the reception desk to call an ambulance.”

Although it’s too soon to tell if there will be any possible side effects and complications after Carsten Mogensen’s brain surgery, he is showing positive signs of recovery.

“I am confident he will be healthy again, but not sure if he can involve in highly competitive sports anymore. Nevertheless, those are not important anymore, it’s highly critical that he can resume and lead a healthy and normal lifestyle,” said Mathias Boe.

“Yesterday was a good day. He was up and walking for the first time. He walked about 25 meters down the hospital hallway, then came back and sat on the couch and brushed his teeth. It’s definitely a huge improvement.”

“He was more tired today, and the Denmark officials are starting to see if they can fly him back to Denmark.”

“Carsten still like to joke around, and remained conscious during conversations.”

“It’s completely fine for him to fly back to Denmark, but I am not sure whether he could withstand the shaking of the airplane, or get use to the long-haul flight.”

Carsten Mogensen’s family members are now by his side in Kazan.

After this unfortunate incident, it’s unlikely Carsten Mogensen and Mathias Boe are able to participate in the men’s doubles event at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
