Lee Chong Wei, Lin Dan crash out as upsets hit India Open

Wei Nan of Hong Kong secured his second win over No. 1 seed Lee Chong Wei 21-19, 21-19 to increase the Malaysian maestro’s woes, while Lin Dan’s campaign ended at the hands of Korea’s Son Wan Ho 21-13, 22-20.

Lee Chong Wei who remained World No. 3 in the latest BWF rankings released on Thursday, was broken when Wei Nan came back from 18-19 to win the first set. The second set was pretty much the same as the first as Lee couldn’t convert when he was leading Wei Nan at 19-18, allowing Wei to reel off 3 consecutive points to claim the second set.

On the other hand, Son Wan Ho roared with delight as he celebrated his huge win over Lin Dan on Thursday. Son took the first set easily, although Lin Dan orchestrated a comeback when trailing by 8-15 to level the score at 20-20 in the second set, Son Wan Ho did just enough to stave off Lin Dan in the 47 minutes encounter.

No. 3 seed Jan Jorgensen of Denmark also suffered a knockout when he could not handle Xue Song of China to go down 18-21, 21-15, 14-21 in 49 minutes.
