Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s badminton maestro World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei who regained the World No. 1 ranking on June 16, has requested his two coaches including Hendrawan and Tey Seu Bock to be on his side during the Summer Olympics that will be held in Rio de Janeiro, from 5 to 21 August 2016.
However, due to difficulties in securing the Olympic Identity and Accreditation Cards, Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) may have a problem of keeping two coaches presence next to the playing area during Lee Chong Wei’s matches.
“Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria and BAM acting president Tan Sri Mohamed Al-Amin Abdul Majid said there could be issues due to limited number of accreditation cards provided by the organizers.”
“I would like to have both coaches to be in Rio to help me analyze my matches and opponents. I had two coaches on my side in the previous Olympics,” said Lee after a training session at the Juana Stadium in Bukit Kiara.
The failure of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to approve more than four accreditation cards for coaches and support staff has made the situation tricky for Lee Chong Wei who is trying to secure Malaysia’s first ever Olympic gold medal.
