East Kalimantan: Malaysian mixed doubles shuttlers Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing entered the second round of the USD $120,000 Indonesian Masters on Tuesday.
The world No. 25 mixed doubles pair had to fight hard for a 21-17, 24-22 win against scratch pair Riky Widianto-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja of Indonesia.
Pei Jing was overjoyed with their opening victory.
“I was stressed before the match,” said Lai Pei Jing to a Malaysian media.
“It was a close match, I am happy we manage to pull it off, and I am more confident now,” added Lai.
Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing will play another Indonesian pair Afiat Yuris Wirawan/Nadya Melati in the second round.
In the men’s doubles, Malaysia’s scratch pair Chooi Kah Ming/Low Juan Shen managed to qualify for the main draw after winning their two matches in the qualifying round. Chooi/Low needed only 18 minutes to beat Indonesia’s Ivandin Danang-Galang Decky Ramadhan 21-17, 21-15 in the morning before working extra hard to see off another Indonesian pair Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Franky Wijaya 21-23, 21-16, 21-16 in the afternoon.
Chooi Kah Ming/Low Juan Shen will take on their third Indonesian opponents – No. 8 seeds Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto of Indonesia in the first round of main draw on Wednesday.
