Jakarta: The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) has confirmed that Hendra Setiawan / Mohammad Ahsan would be the sole Indonesian men’s doubles pair to participate at the Japan Open Superseries.Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan are one of the formidable men's doubles pairs in the world.

According to PBSI’s head of social media – Yuni Kartika, the decision was made based on several factors.

“We feel that other men’s doubles pairs are not ready to compete, therefore, we preferred to send Hendra / Ahsan to Tokyo,” said Kartika.

According to Kartika, they are expecting Setiawan/Ahsan to win the Japan Superseries title after failing to contribute a medal for Indonesia at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

“Hopefully they can advance to final and win the title.”

When asked about the Japan Superseries, Mohammad Ahsan said he and Hendra Setiawan will try to bounce back from their disappointments in Rio.

“We were fully prepared for the Olympics, unfortunately we couldn’t bring out our best game,” said Ahsan.

Ahsan stressed that he would focus on his physical condition as well as his games at the Japan Superseries.
