Chong Wei Feng advances, Zulfadli Zulkiffli crashes out of Malaysian Masters

Sibu: Former Malaysian national shuttler Chong Wei Feng showed no signs of rust in the second round of Malaysian Masters in Sibu on Wednesday as he comfortably defeated Indonesian Henrikho Kho Wibowo 21-15, 21-9.Hope Zulfadli Zulkiffli can bounce back and be stronger in his next tournament.

Chong who defeated Sony Dwi Kuncoro in his opener on Tuesday, will set up a third round encounter with another Indonesian Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

However, Malaysia’s 2011 World Junior champion Zulfadli Zulkiffli failed to progressed after the No. 13 seed was knockout out by Taiwanese player Hsueh Hsuan Yi 21-19, 18-21, 12-21.

Speaking to Malaysian media after the match, Zulkiffli said he was too eager to win but ended up losing his focus when he was leading 14-7 in the second set. He then started to make a lot of mistakes before he was sent crashing out by his Taiwanese opponent.

Meanwhile, Indonesian shuttler Wisnu Yuli Prasetyo created the biggest upset of the day by beating No. 3 seed Hu Yun of Hong Kong 21-15, 21-13.

In a pulsating men’s singles second round contest, No. 7 seed Tommy Sugiarto was stretched to the limit by Pratul Joshi of India, before edging a 21-9, 29-27 victory against the Indian shuttler.

In mixed doubles, both Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Jemie Lai and Tan Kian Meng/Lai Pei Jing of Malaysia have made the second round by outlasting their respective opponents on Wednesday.
