Kota Bharau: The monsoon season that brought a lot of heavy rain has caused serious flooding in the northeast states of Peninsular Malaysia such as Terengganu and Kelantan since early January.
Over 25,000 people having been evacuated to about 213 flood relief centers, the floods also force some schools in Kelantan and Terengganu to be closed.
World No. 1 Malaysian badminton superstar Lee Chong Wei have joined 1Malaysia for Youth (IM4U) – an initiative of the Malaysian government that encourage volunteering among Malaysian youth, to provide necessary and immediate relief efforts for victims of the devastating and ongoing floods in Kelantan and Terengganu.
Lee arrived at the one of the areas in Kelantan that was seriously affected by flood on Sunday to donate food items and was volunteering to cook food for the flood victims.
His arrival in Kelantan was quick to bring smiles to some flood victims, as they felt relieved talking and taking pictures with him.
Lee Chong Wei also posted a message on his official Facebook page to urge his fellow Malaysians to lend a helping hand to those affected by the flood.
“We are here at Kelantan to provide food relief for the victims of the really bad flood (see pictures). About 12,000 families have lost their homes this Chinese New Year holidays. Thank you IM4U for giving me the chance to contribute what little I can to help. For the rest, please lend your support for the people of Kelantan as fellow Malaysians…
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
