India Open: Top seed Carolina Marin of Spain began her quest for the India Open women’s singles title at the Siri Fort Complex on Wednesday by beating Kim Hyo Min of South Korea 621-17, 21-10 in 37 minutes.
The Spaniard will play Rituparna Das of India next.
India’s No. 3 seeds P.V. Sindhu also raced to a good start in her opener by overcoming compatriot Arundhati Pantawane 21-17, 21-6 to set up a second round match against Saena Kawakami of Japan.
Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal who won her maiden India Open in 2015, notched up a win against Chinese Taipei’s Chia Hsin Lee, beating the Taiwanese 21-10, 21-17. In the next match. Nehwal will be up against Thai player Pornpawee Chochuwong.
In women’s doubles, No. 1 seeds Jung Kyung Eun/Shin Seung Chan defeated Anastasia Chervyakova/Olga Morozova of Russia to set up second round meeting with Cynthia Shara Ayunidha/Debora Rumate Vehrenica of Indonesia.
