The 32-year-old Indonesian former World and Olympic champion Hendra Setiawan and 29-year-old Tan Boon Heong needed only 20 minutes to beat Rohit Raturi/Mohit Tiwari of India 21-13, 21-11 in their first qualifying match at Siri Fort Indoor Complex, New Delhi.

The Indonesian and Malaysian combo then defeated Ben Lane/Sean Vendy of England 21-14, 21-10 to advance into the main draw. They will play Ketan Chahal/Tanveer Gill of India in the first round of the Indian Open.

In mixed doubles, Malaysia’s No. 4 seeds Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying were hoping to make a good show in Indian Open after losing a heartbreak final against World No. 4 Lu Kai-Huang Yaqiong of China at All England earlier this month.

“We have been preparing for the Indian Open, and are hoping to play well,” said Goh.

“However, we’ll not put too much pressure on ourselves. After India, we will be play at the Malaysia Open in Kuching next week,” added Goh.
