NEW DELHI, Jan 19 – South Korea’s world number one An Se-young continued her dominant run in the 2025 BWF World Tour, defeating Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min 21-11, 21-12 in the women’s singles quarterfinals at the India Open. With this victory, An has now reached the semifinals in nine consecutive World Tour events and is on track for her second title of the season.

Highlights of An Se-Young vs. Yeo Jia Min in 2025 India Open quarterfinals:

An, who will turn 23 on February 5, is in stellar form this year. After successfully defending her Malaysia Open title last week, she is determined to surpass her 2023 record of 10 titles. Against Yeo, An demonstrated her superior skills, extending her head-to-head dominance to 8-2. This victory was particularly significant as it marked her return to form at the India Open, where she retired in the quarterfinals last year due to injury after losing the first game and trailing 0-3 in the second.

Despite a brief slow start in the first game, An quickly regained control, maintaining her composure and dictating the pace to secure a commanding win in just 36 minutes.

An, the defending champion at the India Open, continues to prove why she is the player to beat, setting her sights on her second consecutive title of the season.

Viktor Axelsen Overcomes Loh Kean Yew to Reach India Open Semi-Finals

Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, a two-time India Open champion, advanced to the semifinals after a hard-fought 21-19, 13-21, 21-8 victory over Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the men’s singles quarterfinals. This win extends Axelsen’s head-to-head streak against Loh to six consecutive victories.

Currently ranked world number five, Axelsen bounced back from his early exit at last week’s Malaysia Open. He has been in fine form in India, defeating Taiwan’s Chi Yu Jen and Singapore’s Jason Teh in earlier rounds.

The match against Loh saw Axelsen struggle early, trailing 2-9 in the first game before rallying to an 11-9 deficit at the interval. He eventually took the lead with a five-point streak at 14-16, closing the game 21-19.

Loh responded strongly in the second game, turning a narrow 5-6 deficit into an 11-6 lead after a six-point run and holding on to level the match. However, the decider was one-sided, with Axelsen dominating from the start and closing the match in 64 minutes.

Axelsen, a champion at the India Open in 2017 and 2019, now aims to claim his third title at the event by playing against Jonatan Christie in the semifinals. If successful, he will tie Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei as the most decorated men’s singles player in India Open history with three titles.
