Kuala Lumpur: As expected, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has restructured its coaching team, including the decision not to renew the contract of men’s singles coach Hendrawan, whose contract ends at the end of this year.
In addition to Hendrawan, 52, who has been with BAM since 2009, the changes made by BAM also saw another men’s singles coach, Tey Seu Bock, now appointed as the head coach for the national junior singles team.
Similarly, national junior women’s singles coach Ameer Amri Zainuddin will also not have his contract renewed, facing the same fate as Hendrawan.
However, BAM’s restructuring is not yet complete, with three positions—head coach for men’s singles, women’s singles, and women’s doubles—still vacant.
Rexy Mainaky, Director of Coaching at the Academy Baminton Malaysia (ABM), expressed gratitude to Hendrawan, acknowledging his contributions and performance over his 15 years with the association.
“During his time with BAM, Hendrawan has coached many national players, including helping Lee Chong Wei win a silver medal at the Olympics and guiding Lee Zii Jia to become an All England champion,” Rexy said during a special press conference at ABM on Tuesday.
BAM also announced that two coaches appointed to assist the head coach for the men’s singles team are Alvin Chew and K Yogendran, while Goh Giap Chin will assist Tey Seu Bock in the junior squad.
Meanwhile, the head coach for the junior team, Jeffer Rosobin, has been assigned as the women’s singles coach alongside Misbun Ramdan.
For men’s doubles, Tan Bin Shen has been appointed as head coach, assisted by Miftakh and Poh Chai Boon. As for the women’s doubles, the position of head coach is still vacant, with Chin Kai Feng acting as an assistant.
