Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia’s badminton legend, Lee Chong Wei, expressed his feelings on social media following the announcement that his former coach, Hendrawan, would not have his contract renewed by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).
In a post on his Facebook page, Lee shared that Hendrawan had always supported him through both good and challenging times, both on and off the court, and that saying goodbye is not easy.
“Coach Hendrawan, you were not just a mentor, but like a brother to me in badminton.”
“Your patience, wisdom, and passion for the sport are unmatched. Without a doubt, you played a crucial role in my success,” said Lee.
Lee Chong Wei mentioned that they shared many highs and lows throughout his career, and although Hendrawan will no longer be with BAM, his influence on Lee Chong Wei’s career and Malaysian badminton will always be remembered.
Lee Chong Wei also expressed his gratitude for Hendrawan’s contributions during his time with BAM.
“Thank you, Coach Pak Hendrawan! This is my sincere appreciation for your contributions to me, my family, Malaysian badminton, and the entire badminton community,” added Lee.
BAM has recently restructured its coaching lineup, which included not renewing the contract of men’s singles coach, Hendrawan, whose contract will end at the close of this year.
In addition to Hendrawan, 52, who had been with BAM since 2009, the changes also saw another men’s singles coach, Tey Seu Bock, being reassigned as the head coach of the Malaysia’s junior singles team.
