Basel: Spanish World No. 5 women’s singles player Carolina Marin, who will turn 31 on June 15 and just won the 2024 All England last week, picked up her second consecutive title in two weeks by defeating Indonesia’s World No. 8 Gregoria Mariska Tunjung with scores of 21-19, 13-21, 22-20 in 81 minutes in the Swiss Open final on Sunday.

This was Carolina Marin’s second Swiss Open title after winning it previously in 2021.
In last week’s All England final, Marin won the first game against Akane Yamaguchi 26-24 and was leading 11-1 in the second set when Yamaguchi decided to retire from the match.
The Swiss Open marks the sixth tournament for the 24-year-old Gregoria Mariska Tunjung this season. After winning titles at the Japan and Spain Masters last year, she is still awaiting to win her first title in 2024.
The men’s singles final saw World No. 22 Lin Chun Yi outlast his senior and World No. 15 Chou Tien Chen 7-21, 22-20, 23-21 in the final.
This marks Lin’s fourth victory in the BWF World Tour tournaments since winning the U.S. Open (Super 300 event) in 2019 and his third Super 300 title. Last year, he also won the Thailand Masters (Super 300 event) and the Kaohsiung Masters (Super 100 event).
As for the 2024 Thailand Masters champion Chou Tien Chen, after losing in last year’s Swiss Open final to Japan’s Kento Momota in three games, he has now finished runner-up for two consecutive editions of the Swiss Open.
This marks the fourth meeting between Chou Tien Chen and Lin Chun Yi in their international careers. Each time they have met, the match has gone to three games. Lin Chun Yi has now leveled the head-to-head record at two wins apiece.
