Jincheng, China: Malaysian independent shuttler Cheam June Wei has added another remarkable chapter to his Lin Dan Cup record, defeating China’s Ren Cheng Ming to capture his fifth title in just three years.
Cheam produced a convincing performance in the 2026 Jincheng Lin Dan Cup men’s singles final, beating Ren 15-11, 15-6 to claim another championship and RMB200,000 in prize money.
The victory made Cheam only the second player in Lin Dan Cup history to win five titles, matching the five-championship mark previously achieved by China’s Zhao Jun Peng.
Even more impressively, Cheam’s total tournament earnings from his five Lin Dan Cup victories have now reached RMB1.1 million, approximately RM660,000.

The Jincheng final brought together two familiar names on the Lin Dan Cup circuit.
Top seed Cheam entered the championship match after another strong run through the tournament, which featured established Chinese players including Ren Cheng Ming, Zhao Jun Peng and Zhou Ze Qi among the semifinalists.
Facing Ren in the final, Cheam controlled the important stages of both games and did not allow the Chinese player to turn the match into a prolonged battle.

It is an exceptional record considering all five championships have come within a span of roughly three years.
Cheam has now equaled Zhao Jun Peng’s five-title mark, making him only the second five-time champion in the history of the tournament.
His consistency has also made the Lin Dan Cup one of the most successful events of his professional badminton career.

Cheam’s remarkable run began at the Shenzhen tournament in June 2024.
He defeated Ren Cheng Ming in that final to capture his first Lin Dan Cup championship and earned RMB200,000.
Only a few months later, Cheam returned to the top of the podium at the Macau edition in September 2024.
This time, he defeated China’s Zhou Ze Qi in the final and collected RMB300,000, the biggest single prize of his Lin Dan Cup career.
His third championship came in Jincheng in 2025, when he defeated another Chinese opponent, Wu Kai An, in the final.
That victory made Cheam the first three-time champion since the competition was established and added another RMB200,000 to his tournament earnings.
Fourth Title Came Against Zhao Jun Peng in Chenzhou
Cheam’s fourth title arrived earlier this year at the 2026 Chenzhou Lin Dan Cup.
Facing defending champion Zhao Jun Peng in the men’s singles final, the Malaysian won a dramatic three-game contest 15-3, 9-15, 15-13.
The match was particularly significant because Zhao was one of the most successful players in Lin Dan Cup history.
Cheam’s victory earned him another RMB200,000 and put him within touching distance of the tournament’s all-time title leaders.
Fifth Championship Brings Cheam’s Earnings to RMB1.1 Million
His return to Jincheng has now completed another milestone.
By defeating Ren for his fifth championship, Cheam added another RMB200,000 and pushed his accumulated prize money from Lin Dan Cup victories beyond the RMB1 million mark.

This time the Malaysian’s victory was even more decisive, as he completed the final in straight games.
