Bangkok: Malaysia’s world no. 9 mixed doubles pair, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Thailand Masters, while four other Malaysian representatives were eliminated in the second round today.

Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei fulfilled expectations by progressing to the top eight, defeating teammates Hoo Pang Ron/Cheng Su Yin with a score of 21-14, 21-15 in the second-round match held at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.
This marks the first time this season that the world number nine pair has successfully reached the quarterfinals, following second-round exits in the previous three tournaments – the Malaysia Open, the India Open, and the Indonesia Masters.
Chen/Toh will face the Dutch pair, Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek, in the quest for a spot in the semifinals.
Robin and Selena advanced after overcoming the challenge from the Malaysian professional mixed doubles pair, Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing, with a score of 18-21, 21-15, 21-19.
Another Malaysian professional mixed doubles pair, Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie, also failed to continue their journey, losing to the Indonesian pair, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, in a three-set battle of 17-21, 21-17, 16-21.
The same fate befell the Malaysian men’s professional doubles pair, Teo Ee Yi and Ong Yew Sin, who were defeated by the Danish pair, Andreas Sondergaard and Jesper Toft, with a score of 23-25, 21-14, 14-21.
Earlier, Malaysian professional men’s singles player, Cheam June Wei, was also shown the exit in the second round, losing to the Dutch representative, Mark Caljouw, with a score of 7-21, 11-21.
