Kuala Lumpur – Malaysian mixed doubles player Chen Tang Jie has expressed his continued appreciation for his partnership with Toh Ee Wei, despite growing speculation over a possible split.

Chen Tang Jie, 27, who teamed up with Toh Ee Wei in late 2022, stressed that the challenges they are currently facing are part and parcel of any doubles pairing.

“Every pair goes through difficult phases like this, but I remain positive and believe things are still under control. I really value Ee Wei and everything we’ve achieved together,” Chen said during a training session at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) on Monday.

He also acknowledged his career journey with gratitude, thanking all his previous partners for the experiences shared.

“Of course, I still hope to win more titles with Ee Wei, but we’ll see how things unfold. Right now, I don’t know which tournament I’ll play next, but I’m always ready to step on court,” he added.

“I never considered switching partners, so I was surprised at how far this situation has escalated.”

Since joining forces, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei have clinched three BWF World Tour titles: the 2023 Orléans Masters, 2023 Taiwan Open, and the 2024 Korea Open. The duo also reached a career-high world ranking of No. 3.

However, Malaysia’s mixed doubles head coach Nova Widianto recently confirmed a noticeable coldness in the pair’s relationship. As a result, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has withdrawn their entry from the upcoming Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) in Ningbo, China, scheduled for April 8–13, 2025, citing that the players were not in the right state to compete.

Nova remains hopeful the duo can regain form in time for the Sudirman Cup, to be held in Xiamen, China, from April 27 to May 4. However, he did not rule out the possibility of splitting the pair if their situation does not improve.
