Shenzhen, China – In one of the most electrifying matches of the 2025 China Masters, Malaysian mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei pulled off a sensational comeback to stun World No. 1 Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping, advancing to the final in front of a stunned home crowd at Shenzhen Arena.

📺 Watch the Match Highlights:

A Comeback for the Ages

Chen/Toh, fresh off their recent World Championship triumph, showed nerves of steel despite dropping the first game 22-24. In the second game, they regrouped with strategic shot selection and aggressive net play to edge past the top seeds 21-19.

Fueled by confidence and composure, the Malaysian duo went on a scoring spree in the decider, racing ahead 11-7, then 19-15, before sealing the match 21-17 in a gripping 80-minute battle.

This win marked their third victory in nine career meetings against the Chinese pair, and their first since the 2024 Paris Olympics group stage, where they also caused an upset.

“Honestly, I couldn’t think about anything else—just the fight. We’re thrilled to beat them today,” said Chen Tang Jie to the Badminton World Federation (BWF). “But even with this win, we know there’s still a lot to improve.”

🏆 One Win Away From History

Chen/Toh are now one match away from becoming the first non-Chinese pair to ever win the China Masters mixed doubles crown. Standing in their way is Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran, ranked World No. 4.

The Thai duo reached the final after eliminating tournament favorites Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin in straight games 21-17, 22-20. They also hold a 3-1 career advantage over Chen/Toh, having defeated them in:

  • 2025 Indonesia Open (semifinal)

  • 2025 Indonesia Masters (January)

  • 2024 Japan Masters

Malaysia’s only win came at the 2025 India Open, where Chen/Toh fought back to win 19-21, 21-12, 22-20.

Malaysia’s Men’s Doubles Run Ends

Hopes of a final appearance in men’s doubles were dashed when Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik fell to India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty in the men’s doubles semifinals. The Indian pair dominated from the start, clinching a 21-17, 21-14 win in just 41 minutes.

Rankireddy/Shetty will face Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, who outlasted Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri 21-13, 21-17.
