Jakarta: Malaysia’s Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani delivered one of their biggest wins of the season after defeating South Korea’s Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae to reach the Indonesia Open men’s doubles final.

The world No. 8 Malaysian pair fought through a tense semifinal to beat the world No. 1 and defending champions 21-18, 17-21, 21-18 at the Senayan Sports Complex on Saturday.

The victory ended Kim and Seo’s title defense in Jakarta and sent Sze Fei and Izzuddin into another major final on the BWF World Tour.

For the Malaysian pair, the result was especially meaningful. It was their second career win over Kim and Seo in four meetings, and their first victory against the Korean pair since the India Open final last January.

Since that India Open meeting, Kim and Seo had beaten Sze Fei and Izzuddin in straight games at both the All England Open and the Japan Open final. This time, however, the Malaysians handled the pressure better in the closing stages and found the answers when it mattered most.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin Return to Another Final in Jakarta

Sze Fei and Izzuddin have enjoyed strong results in Indonesia this season. Earlier this year, they won the Indonesia Masters Super 500 title, also held at the Senayan Sports Complex.

They also reached the Malaysia Masters final, where they finished runner-up. Their latest run at the Indonesia Open, a Super 1000 badminton tournament, further underlines their consistency and their ability to challenge the best pairs in the world.

In Sunday’s men’s doubles final, Sze Fei and Izzuddin will face Indonesia’s Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin.

The world No. 12 Indonesian pair reached the final after winning an all-Indonesian semifinal against sixth seeds Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 21-15, 21-18.

Interestingly, this will be a rematch of the 2026 Indonesia Masters final. On Jan. 25, Sze Fei and Izzuddin defeated Raymond and Nikolaus 21-19, 21-13 to lift the title. The question now is whether the Indonesian pair can respond in front of their home crowd, or whether the Malaysians will once again leave Jakarta as champions.

An Se Young Saves Four Match Points in Stunning Comeback

An Se Young vs. Chen Yufei Highlights | Indonesia Open 2026 Women’s Singles Semifinal

In women’s singles, world No. 1 An Se Young produced a remarkable comeback to defeat China’s Chen Yu Fei and move into the Indonesia Open final.

The Olympic champion from South Korea took the opening game 21-17, but Chen responded strongly to win the second game 21-19 and force a decider.

The final game looked almost over when Chen built a huge lead. An trailed 7-17, then 12-18, and later faced four match points at 16-20.

But the Korean star refused to fade. She clawed her way back to 20-20, saved every match point, and eventually completed a dramatic 21-17, 19-21, 23-21 victory after a 78-minute battle.

The defeat was a painful one for Chen, who came extremely close to ending her losing run against An. Instead, the Chinese world No. 4 suffered her fourth straight defeat to the Korean, while An improved her head-to-head record against Chen to 17 wins from 31 meetings.

Akane Yamaguchi Sets Up Final With An Se Young

An Se Young will face Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the women’s singles final.

The third-seeded Japanese player needed only 29 minutes to defeat South Korea’s Sim Yu Jin 21-14, 21-7 in the other semifinal.

Yamaguchi controlled the match from start to finish and extended her winning streak over Sim to three matches. Her sharp movement and clean shot selection gave Sim very few chances to settle into the contest.

The final between An and Yamaguchi brings together two of the most consistent players in women’s singles badminton and promises to be one of the headline matches of the tournament.

Jonatan Christie to Face Victor Lai in Men’s Singles Final

In men’s singles, Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie reached his first Indonesia Open final after coming from behind to beat Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul.

The fifth seed lost the first game but recovered impressively to win 16-21, 21-10, 21-12 in front of the home crowd.

Jonatan has already enjoyed major success in Jakarta, including his men’s singles gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games and his Indonesia Masters title in 2023. He will now try to win the Indonesia Open for the first time.

His opponent in the final will be Canada’s Victor Lai, who reached the first Super 1000 final of his career with a hard-fought win over Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen.

The world No. 14 Canadian defeated the sixth seed 21-19, 19-21, 21-19 in a tight semifinal, continuing his breakthrough run in Jakarta.

Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning Continue Title Defense

In women’s doubles, China’s defending champions Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning moved into the final with a 21-17, 21-16 win over Indonesia’s Rachel Allessya Rose and Febi Setianingrum.

The Chinese pair stayed composed against the home favorites and kept their title defense alive with another steady performance.

They will face Japan’s fifth seeds Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto in the final. The Japanese pair advanced after winning an all-Japanese semifinal.

Christiansen-Bøje End French Pair’s Title Defense

In mixed doubles, Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje ended the title defense of France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue.

The Danish fifth seeds came from behind to win 18-21, 21-13, 21-16 against the fourth-seeded French pair.

Christiansen and Bøje will face China’s Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi in the final. The world No. 11 Chinese pair booked their place in the title match after winning an all-Chinese semifinal.

Malaysia Eyes Indonesia Open Men’s Doubles Crown

With Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin now through to the men’s doubles final, Malaysia has a real chance to finish the Indonesia Open with a title.

Their win over Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae was not only a major result, but also a strong statement against the world’s top-ranked pair.

Sunday’s final against Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin will carry extra tension, with the Indonesians looking for revenge and the Malaysians aiming to repeat their Indonesia Masters success.

For badminton fans, it sets up a compelling final day in Jakarta, with major titles on the line across all five events.
