Seoul, South Korea – After an 18-month title drought, Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie roared back to life on the badminton court, defeating Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in a thrilling three-game battle to claim the 2025 Korea Open men’s singles title.

It was the 12th meeting between the two rivals, with Christie entering the match holding a narrow 6–5 head-to-head lead. However, Antonsen had won their last two clashes in 2024, giving the Dane a psychological edge going in.

But after 75 minutes of fierce action, it was the Indonesian star who prevailed: 21–10, 15–21, 21–17, ending his championship drought and taking back control of their rivalry with a 7–5 record.

Match Breakdown

Antonsen started strong with a 4–2 lead in Game 1, but Christie responded fiercely, leveling the score and launching a 12–3 run that overwhelmed the Dane. Christie dominated the first game and closed it out 21–10 with a flurry of smashes and defensive brilliance.

In Game 2, Christie took an early 4–0 lead, but Antonsen stormed back with a 10–1 streak, flipping the momentum and taking the second game 21–15 to force a decider.

The final game saw multiple ties, but Christie led 11–9 at the interval. Despite a brief comeback from Antonsen to level it at 11–11, the Indonesian regained control, stretched the lead to 19–14, and fended off late pressure to seal the title with a 21–17 win.

Men’s Doubles: Korea Captures Another Title

Home favorites Kim Won Ho / Seo Seung Jae followed up last week’s win at the China Masters by defeating Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian / Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in straight games: 21–16, 23–21. The Korean pair now boasts 7 BWF World Tour titles this year and continues to look unstoppable on home soil.

Their dominance was on full display in Game 1, breaking away from a 16–16 tie to win five straight points. In Game 2, the Indonesians led 11–8 and later 20–19, but the Koreans saved a game point and edged the tight finish, winning 23–21 to capture the crown.

A Double Victory for Korea

The men’s doubles win marked Korea’s second home title of the tournament, following a women’s doubles victory earlier. The energetic local crowd cheered both wins, reinforcing Korea’s strength in doubles disciplines on the world stage.
