Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: Malaysian badminton star Lee Zii Jia has taken a corporate dispute involving LZJ Management Sdn Bhd and members of his family to the High Court, according to court documents cited by Malaysian media.

The legal action involves Lee’s father, Lee Chee Hin, his sister Lee Zii Yii and his younger brother Lee Tao, with the dispute centered on company governance, financial approvals and control of major corporate decisions.

The case comes at a time when Lee has also been trying to rebuild momentum on court. He produced one of his strongest tournament runs of the season at the 2026 Arctic Open, reaching the semifinals before losing in three games to eventual champion Anders Antonsen.

Lee Zii Jia Seeks Interim Injunction

According to the reported court filing, the originating summons was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on July 2, 2026 under case number WA-24NCC-400-07/2026.

The respondents named in the matter are LZJ Management Sdn Bhd, Lee Chee Hin, Lee Zii Yii and Lee Tao.

Lee is seeking an interim injunction aimed at restricting his father and sister, who are also directors of the company, from approving certain financial benefits for themselves while the case is pending.

The application reportedly covers directors’ fees, allowances, bonuses and other financial benefits beyond their normal monthly salaries unless approval is first obtained from the court.

Major Company Decisions Also Included in Application

Lee is also asking the court to restrict several significant corporate actions from being carried out without prior judicial approval.

  • Appointment or removal of company directors
  • Appointment of the company secretary
  • Disposal of substantial company assets
  • Issuance of new shares
  • Changes to the company’s shareholding structure

These requests form part of Lee’s application and have not been determined by the court.

Lee Says He Holds 90 Percent of LZJ Management

In the court documents, Lee states that he owns 90 percent of LZJ Management.

His sister Lee Zii Yii, who has also been involved in managing his professional badminton career, is said to hold 9 percent of the company, while Lee Tao holds the remaining 1 percent.

Lee is also seeking a court order for an extraordinary general meeting to be held in order to address the management and governance of the company.

Previous Attempt to Hold Extraordinary General Meeting Failed

In an affidavit supporting his application, Lee said he had previously attempted to convene an extraordinary general meeting on December 22, 2025.

The meeting did not proceed because the required quorum was not reached.

The originating summons reportedly argues that the company is now facing a management and administrative deadlock, making court intervention necessary.

Lee is asking for the meeting to be held within 14 days of a court order, or within another period determined by the court.

He is also seeking permission for the meeting notice to be issued and served, along with the appointment of an independent chairman.

Proposed Meeting Could Address Directors and Company Secretary

Under the proposed arrangement, the meeting could proceed even if certain directors, shareholders or the company secretary do not attend.

The proposed agenda reportedly includes the possible removal of existing directors, appointment of new directors and a new company secretary, as well as other corporate matters involving LZJ Management.

Lee Chee Hin Opposes Court Intervention

The respondents have challenged Lee’s application.

In an affidavit filed on August 6, Lee Chee Hin reportedly questioned the need for court intervention and maintained that the company had continued managing matters connected to his son’s professional badminton career.

His affidavit also referred to LZJ Management’s agreement with badminton equipment brand Victor, which reportedly runs from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2028.

Lee Chee Hin argued that the agreement and the financial benefits arising from it are important to both the company’s operations and Lee Zii Jia’s professional career.

Payments and Use of Lee Zii Jia’s Name and Image Also Disputed

The father’s affidavit also addressed issues involving payments and the use of Lee Zii Jia’s name and image rights.

A joint affidavit filed on behalf of Lee Zii Yii and Lee Tao similarly challenged allegations in the proceedings and questioned the legal remedies being sought.

The competing positions remain allegations and arguments before the court, rather than findings of fact.

Legal Dispute Continues as Lee Zii Jia Rebuilds on Court

The dispute adds another off-court development to what has already been a challenging period for the former All England champion.

On court, however, Lee showed encouraging signs at the Arctic Open by reaching the semifinals and defeating world No. 2 Christo Popov along the way before eventually losing to Antonsen.

The legal proceedings involving LZJ Management remain unresolved, and the court has yet to decide whether the requested injunction and other orders should be granted.
