Lucknow, India — It was a commanding day for Malaysian badminton as the national contingent pushed three men’s doubles pairs and one women’s doubles pair into the semifinals of the SYED MODI India International 2025, a BWF Super 300 tournament renowned for attracting top international names.

The strong showing guarantees Malaysia at least one representative in the men’s doubles final, with two national pairs drawn against each other in the top half of the bracket.

🇲🇾 Men’s Doubles: Malaysia Places Three Pairs in the Last Four

1. Chia Weijie / Lwi Sheng Hao (3rd Seeds)

The independent duo continued their excellent form, winning both their matches in straight games. They swept UAE’s twins Dev Ayyappan/Dhiren Ayyappan 21–18, 21–13 to secure their semifinal spot.

They will face fellow Malaysians Muhammad Faiq/Lok Hong Quan in an all-Malaysia semifinal.


2. Muhammad Faiq / Lok Hong Quan

After stunning India’s second seeds in the previous round, Faiq/Lok kept their momentum going, defeating Japan’s Masayuki Onodera/Daigo Tanioka 21–16, 21–15.

They now prepare for a challenging showdown against Chia/Lwi.


3. Kang Khai Xing / Aaron Tai (6th Seeds)

The former world junior champions proved their fighting spirit once again.
Kang/Aaron Tai survived back-to-back three-game battles, including a grueling win over India’s No. 5 seeds Hariharan Amsakarunan/M.R. Arjun:

22–20, 14–21, 21–13

Their semifinal opponents will be Russia’s Rodion Alimov/Maksim Oglobin.


Women’s Doubles: One Malaysian Pair Through

Ong Xin Yee / Carmen Ting (7th Seeds)

Malaysia’s only surviving women’s pair kept the flag flying by defeating India’s home duo
Priya Konjengbam/Shruti Mishra 21–13, 22–20 to book a place in the semifinals.

They now face the tournament’s top-seeded pair, Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand Pullela, in what promises to be a stern test.


Mixed Doubles: Malaysia’s Challenge Ends in the Quarterfinals

Both Malaysian mixed doubles pairs were eliminated in the last eight, leaving the semifinals dominated by Thailand, Indonesia, and India.


🔥 Men’s Singles Shake-Up

The tournament saw a major upset when the top seed Jason Teh Jia Heng (Singapore) fell to Japan’s world No. 119 Minoru Koga in a three-game thriller:

19–21, 21–12, 20–22

Koga will face Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan for a spot in the final.

The bottom half features an all-India showdown between
Kidambi Srikanth (5th seed) and Mithun Manjunath.
