JAKARTA: Malaysia’s badminton contingent delivered a historic performance at the 2026 Indonesia Masters, sweeping three titles in mixed doubles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles to etch a new chapter in the nation’s World Tour history.
Competing at the famed Istora Senayan — widely regarded as one of the toughest venues on the circuit — the Malaysian shuttlers rose to the occasion to claim an unprecedented triple-title haul in a single Super 500 event.
It marks the first time since the BWF World Tour system was introduced in 2018 that Malaysia have captured three titles at one tournament, setting a new benchmark for the national team.
Historic Mixed Doubles Breakthrough
World champions Chen Tang Jie–Toh Ee Wei led the charge by becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to win the Indonesia Masters title.
Seeded third, the Malaysians recovered from a slow start to defeat Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen–Alexandra Bøje 15-21, 21-17, 21-11 in the final, sealing victory after 62 minutes of high-intensity badminton.
The win was their second triumph over the Danish pair in three meetings and delivered Chen–Toh their first title of the 2026 season, ending a brief slump following an early exit at last week’s India Open.
Since the tournament’s inception in 2010, Malaysia had never won mixed doubles title — making this mixed doubles crown a landmark achievement.

Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin End Title Drought
In men’s doubles, Goh Sze Fei–Nur Izzuddin Rumsani successfully defended Malaysia’s presence atop the podium by overcoming Indonesia’s Raymond Indra–Nikolaus Joaquin 21-19, 21-13.
Playing against the deafening home crowd, the fourth seeds showed composure and authority to secure their first title in 12 months, ending a long championship drought.
The victory also ensured Malaysia claimed the men’s doubles crown for a second consecutive year, following Man Wei Chong–Tee Kai Wun’s breakthrough win in 2025.

Pearly Tan–Thinaah Finally Break 15-Year Drought
Malaysia’s women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan–Thinaah Muralitharan completed the historic treble after being awarded the title following the withdrawal of Japan’s Arisa Igarashi–Miyu Takahashi due to illness.
The result marked Malaysia’s first women’s doubles title at the Indonesia Masters since 2011, ending a 15-year wait and giving Pearly–Thinaah their first championship of the new season.
Earlier in 2026, the duo exited early at the Malaysia Open before rebounding with a semi-final run at the India Open, making this title a timely confidence boost.
Singles Champions: Chen Yu Fei and Alwi Farhan Shine
China’s top seed Chen Yu Fei claimed her second Indonesia Masters women’s singles title, defeating Thailand’s teenage sensation Pitchamon Opatniputh 23-21, 21-13.
The win delivered Chen her first title of the year after semi-final finishes at the Malaysia Open and India Open, while also extending her head-to-head record against Opatniputh.
In men’s singles, Indonesia’s rising star Alwi Farhan thrilled home fans by demolishing Thailand’s Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul 21-5, 21-6 in just 25 minutes to secure his first Super 500 crown.
The 20-year-old had enjoyed a giant-killing run en route to the final, but was untouchable in the title match, delivering Indonesia their only championship of the tournament.
