URUMQI, CHINA – The 2025 Lin Dan Cup Badminton Open, a tournament built around the personal brand of legendary Chinese shuttler Lin Dan, concluded its sixth edition in Urumqi, Xinjiang on June 15 with spectacular performances and a record prize pool.

Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long emerged as the men’s singles champion, defeating former Chinese national player Zhao Junpeng in a tightly contested final. The match was played under the BWF’s new experimental 15-point scoring format. Ng took the opening game 15-10, dropped the second 10-15, but held his nerve in the decider to seal victory 15-7 and claim the CNY 200,000 winner’s prize.

Earlier in the tournament, Ng made headlines for his humorous and effortless opening-round match against a 15-year-old amateur local player, but quickly shifted into high gear to storm through the draw, eliminating several top-level players including Zhou Zeqi and Zheng Minshan.
