Lin Dan’s 2017 season got off to a rough start when he uncharacteristic lost to Denmark’s Emil Holst at the German Open, and to compatriots Shi Yuqi in the All England semi-final. He then picked up some steam by winning the Swiss Open and Malaysia Open. However, he was defeated by Chen Long in the final of Asia Championships, went down to Wang Tzu Wei of Taiwan in the first round of Indonesia Open before beaten by Chen Long again in the quarter-finals of Australian Open.

Nevertheless, with the rich experience of playing 17 years on the world circuit, and he’s one of the best shuttler that ever played the sport, so no one should ever count him out on the badminton court and especially in bigger events like the World Championships.
