Beijing: The two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan, was honored with the Sports Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Sina Sports last Friday to commemorate his legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of badminton.
The official statement from the organizer said that what Lin achieved was truly remarkable:
“He was born for badminton and completed an unprecedented grand slam twice in men’s singles badminton. He has won all major titles in professional badminton, he motivates everyone because he never surrenders. Even though he has retired from badminton, but will forever be remembered as a legend!”
Although Lin has won countless awards including two Olympic gold medals, five World titles, and 666 career wins, spanning two decades, but this was a very special award for him as it was voted on by media members and fans rather than winning through the tournaments.
Lin was full of excitement when he received the award. He said that he was very proud of winning this award and he also expressed his sincere gratitude to the media and fans.
Lin, nicknamed “Super Dan”, announced his retirement on July 4, 2020, after his pursuit of a fifth Olympics in Tokyo was looking out of reach.
