Taipei: Tai Tzu Ying will make history in the women’s singles department when the Badminton World Federation publishes its latest world rankings on Jan 25, 2022.

She is going to be the only women’s singles player who had spent a total of 200 weeks as World number one, and the fourth player in the history of world badminton to enter the “200 weeks World No. 1” club.

Previously, Malaysia’s badminton legend, Lee Chong Wei held the all-time record of 348 weeks as World No. 1. Lee is the only player to rank No. 1 for more than 300 weeks, and the only player, male or female, to rank No. 1 for 200 consecutive weeks, the most of any badminton player in the history of badminton.

Another badminton legend, Lin Dan of China, was at the World No. 1 position for a total of 233 weeks. He last held the World No. 1 position in the week of September 20, 2012. Lee Chong Wei regained the World No. 1 position on September 27, 2012, and Lin Dan had not returned to the World No. 1 ranking ever since.

Meanwhile, China’s 2012 London Olympics mixed doubles champions – Zhang Nan, Zhao Yunlei, were the World No. 1 for a total of 236 weeks.
