Fuzhou: 2014 Badminton China Open that offers prize money of $700,000 U.S. dollars and also part of BWF World Super-series Premier, started its qualifying rounds on Tuesday in Fuzhou, capital city of China’s Fujian Province.
A total of 224 players from 23 countries and regions are playing in the event.
The reigning world champion – Chinese player Chen Long is the top seed in the men’s singles. On contrary, Lin Dan, the two times Olympic champion is not listed as a seeded player.
With top seed Li Xuerui pulling out due to injury, Chinese female players Wang Shixian and Wang Yihan are seeded as No. 2 and No. 3 respectively in the women’s singles category.
Men’s singles Chong Wei Feng and men’s doubles Tan Boon Heong-Hoon Thien How will be the only Malaysia representatives in the tournament.
