Germany: Reigning Glasgow Commonwealth Games women’s doubles champions Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei were the only Malaysian players left at the ongoing German Open.Hope Vivian Hoo (left) and Woon Khe Wei could go far in the tournament.

 

Compared to their gritty 66 minutes win over Japanese pair Ayane Kurihara/Naru Shinoya on Wednesday, Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei made it look easy on Thursday as they advanced with a 21-13, 21-14 win over Hsu Ya Ching/Pai Yu Po of Taiwan in 25 minutes.

Meanwhile, Malaysian mixed doubles pair Tan Aik Quan/Lai Pei Jing went down to Sam Magee/Chloe Magee of Ireland 13-21, 14-21, while Goh Soon Huat of Malaysia was sent packing by fourth seeds Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark 11-21, 15-21 in the last 16 of men’s singles match.

India’s Ashwini Ponnappa and her Russian partner Vladimir Ivanov bowed out of the mixed doubles event following their defeat against third seeds Chris and Gabrielle Adcock 19-21, 15-21, while the men’s singles defending champion Arvind Bhat of India lost to second seed South Korean shuttler Son Wan Ho 12-21, 13-21.
