Iskandar Zulkarnain from Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) who won Singapore International Series in August, Poland International Series in September and Swiss International Badminton Challenge in October, took out Negeri Sembilan’s Chen Tng Jie 21-13, 21-12 and team mate R. Satheishtharan 21-17, 21-18 to remain No. 1 in Group A.

“I am hoping to win the GP, but there are several good players here and I can’t underestimate any of them,” said Iskandar.

Another BAM player Goh Soon Huat defeated Lee Zii Jia from Sekolah Sukan Bukit Jalil (SSBJ) 21-10, 21-14 and Wong Chet Vin from BAM, 21-6, 21-10 in men’s singles Group B.

Malaysia’s No. 1 women’s singles player faced strong resistance from the 2015 World Junior runner-up Lee Ying Ying before emerging with a 21-17, 21-23, 21-15 victory, followed by another victory against Lim Chiew Sien 21-9, 21-16 in her second match.

The 15-year-old World Junior champion Goh Jin Wei needed only 29 minutes to dismiss Lee Zii Yii of BAM 21-11, 21-15 and then achieved her second victory of the day with 21-18, 24-22 win over Yang Li Lian in her women’s singles Group B matches.

With Goh V Shem/Tan Wee Kiong, Vivian Hoo/Woon Khe Wei, Amelia Alicia Anscelly/Soong Fie Cho and Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying currently playing in the Mexico City Badminton Grand Prix, there will be plenty of chances for other players to emerge from the shadows of these pairs by capturing the Malaysia National GP Finals title.
