Singapore: China is expected to send over a strong men’s and women’s team for the OUE Singapore Open that offers total prize money of US$350,000 ($500,000) slated to be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium from April 12 to 17.
Two-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time world champion Lin Dan together with World No. 1 Chen Long are set to compete in the tournament before the Olympic Qualification Period which ends on 1 May, 2016.
“I am looking forward to the Singapore Open to earn as much qualifying points as possible before the end of the Olympic qualification period,” said Lin Dan.
The last time he competed at the Singapore SuperSeries event was during the 2011 edition, when he gave compatriot Chen Jin a walkover in the men’s singles final because of gastric flu. Lin Dan was booed by spectators as he was later forced to apologize for pulling out in the men’s final.
Super “Dan” and Chen Long had also signed up for the 2013 edition, only to pull out later.
Defending women’s singles champion, former world champion Wang Yihan, and reigning Olympic mixed doubles champions Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei are going to headline the Chinese women’s singles and mixed doubles team.
