Hong Kong: After winning the 2016 China Open badminton Superseries on Sunday, India’s badminton ace P.V. Sindhu is eyeing for another Superseries title at the 2016 Hong Kong Open that is slated to begin on Tuesday.
Since both Sindhu and Marin are placed in the different group, it’s highly possible that the unseeded Sindhu could possibly face No. 1 seed Carolina Marin in the Hong Kong Open final.
Sindhu who is looking to qualify for next month’s Dubai World Super Series Finals, insisted she still has her sights set at the Super Series Finals, but the Hong Kong Open will be her central focus right now.
“I am looking forward to a great performance in Hong Kong, although I don’t know much about the ranking points are,” said Sindhu.
Sindhu will play Indonesian shuttler Susanto Yulia Yosephin in her opener, and may face her compatriot Saina Nehwal in the semi-finals if the seeds hold.
Meanwhile, Marin will begin her campaign against Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand in the first round, and would meet Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan in the semi-finals.
Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon who was seeded second in the competition has decided to withdraw from the tournament due to a knee injury she sustained in September, when she crashed out in the second round of the Korea Open. Intanon’s empty spot was filled by qualifier Chen Su Yu of Taiwan in the main draw.
